Raise Awareness

  • Don't assume that people already know about the access restrictions faced by horse riders.  Most don't, so discuss equestrian access issues outside of the horse community too.

  • Be heard where it counts. Make submissions on relevant local and central Government draft plans and long term strategies. Refer to NZEAN as the central point of contact if you want to. We will try to provide a current list of open consultations. Please contact us to let us know of any we've missed

  • Participate. If you can, get involved with your local trail committees or working groups. An hour or two spent with others working on or maintaining the trails we use is one of the best ways to show our appreciation and draw attention to us as valid and responsible user group.

  • Be inclusive. Encourage your communities to join in and enjoy any local equestrian events as participants, helpers or as part of the audience. When you have the support and acceptance of your community, it can be much easier to obtain access.

Be a great horse ambassador on the trail

When you travel anywhere to ride, clean up ALL parking areas.

One of the main reasons given for excluding horses from trails is manure left where others find it offensive.

This simple act can make a big difference.

Unfortunately, not everyone has got the message yet, so spread the word.

In the meantime, please do a good deed and clean up even if it's not your mess.
